Letter to The Arab News media and editors
Dear Editor:
We are witnessing in the Middle East countries countless revolutions, protests and demands for reform, change and more freedoms, more people participations, democracy and elections.
To achieve this, which in the long run, the best for the people, the countries and for long lasting presentation for human dignity and accountability. One must start the change in the mind set of the practices and the way they govern; two critical issues must be addressed and changed:
1. Change the mindset of the rulers in the way they govern: from developing a cult of personality, the allegiance and loyalty to the ruler (king, prince, sheik, ruling family, president etc), to allegiance to the State, the flag and the constitution. Here in the United States, Every School, every college and every government building you would have a flag, a map and copy of the constitution, NO pictures of Obama or the current president of the United States. Contrary to the ARAB countries, pictures of the Ruler is posted in every street , every building, every corner, practically the Ruler and his family are saying : I own the country, it is my play ground , you, the people are my subjects, my servants, you have no say , you live under my mercy. This mind set, needs to change to join the enlightened nation of the world. Enough of the Stone Age means of governing.
2. Financial Transparency and accountability: It is amazing that the World and the people of the Middle East are finding out that these Arab Rulers are hording, owning and depositing Billions of dollars in their Personal, children’s, and family accounts in overseas Banks- mainly in Western Banks. Mubarak of Egypt estimated at $70 billions, Gaddafi of Libya at $130Billions, and of course the rest of the Arab Kings have massive amount of money and Holdings in Western Banks. Meanwhile, their people have no jobs, live on $ 2 day. The West strategy is to encourage these Arab rules to deposit t and transfer their wealth to their banks, because at the End of the day they will Freeze it and seize it and the Arab people will be left with nothing. Consider Libya $ 130B wealth in Western Countries is GONE. Notice that most of these Arab country rulers stand up and BEG the West for financial aid, while their accounts have billions deposited in overseas banks. This need to stop. The people of decency must demand that these Rulers transfer all the money they have in overseas and invest it in the country for their own people. It is rather amazing that the King of Saudi would go overseas for Medical Treatment, while they are planning to spend $60billion dollars on Arms. They can’t build a decent hospital or Medical treatment facility for this kind of money, so the king and his people go to. They can build the best medical facility in the world for this kind of investment. Why can’t they? Why waste all this money on arms that is , if it is used, it will be used to kill Arabs or Muslims or his own people. DO You Agree
